Blessed Emilie Tavernier Gamelin was a French Canadian social worker and Roman Catholic Religious sister. After Emilie's husband's death she opened her house to the poor and needy, leading her home to be called the 'House of Providence'. Gaining a following, Emilie was granted a group of sisters from Bishop Bourget and formed the 'Sisters of Providence' in Montreal. Despite early problems, the group thrived even after Emilie's death, and is served today by over 6,000 members.
