Barnabas, a Jewish convert, is often considered an Apostle but he is not one of the Twelve Apostles. He believed in the ChurchÔs mission to Gentiles, and worked with St. Paul in Asia and Cyprus. Barnabas is often depicted standing near stones while holding the Gospel of Saint Matthew, the image of him while he was stoned to death in Salamis.
