Also known as Ciaran of Saigir, he was one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland and believed to be the first-born of Irish Saints. He is attributed to the founding of the Saigir monastery as well as a women's monastery run by his mother. He was also fond of animals and used them as his first monks.
