Cardinal Newman wished to remain loyal and true to the principles of Catholic beliefs and forms of worship. Originally an Anglican who lead the Oxford Movement, he left the Church of England to join the Roman Catholic Church. Advocating history and ritual expression, he wrote over 20,000 letters and 40 books as both a lecturer and educator. He is one of the most influential 19th Century writers among the Roman Catholic Church.
