Lucy joined religion and escaped marriage after praying for her mother's freedom from haemorrhagic illness. Her pagan suitor denounced her to the Governor of Syracuse, who later sentenced her to a brothel, and later burned at a stake. She would not move from the brothel and the fire at the stake burned out, leading to her beheading.
