When Mary's father became ill, she worked to give her family income until she met St. Woods and opened a school in Penola, Australia. The school gained several other women and the sisters grew into the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart. Mary spent her life helping the poor and expanding her congregation for Australians, despite opposition from the Church.
